Elambo, do you know anything about Ian schneller, Luthier, at Specimen guitars?
He's just North/West of Make'n Music.

I think that's a common misconception. He works on the electrics of many of the top names when they come to town and need work, so he's been pinned as such, but he's really an overall guitar guy. Makes unbelievable archtops. Also just started a line of amps (a couple guys from Wilco, including Tweedy, use these. So does Andrew Bird and quite a few others), and he's great at amp rebuilding. But ask him about reworking frets on acoustic guitars and you'll get an earful.

Haven't heard of Ian. I've only ever worked with two guys in town so I don't know the area as well as I could. Is that who works on your guitars?

Well I took my Hirade classical to him because when I first purchased it (used) it was buzzing.
His student was the one that took care of me. Ian seemed very distant, very secluded. The work was good, a bit expensive. His shop is locked down like Fort Knox.

Ah yes, now I know how that name is familiar. A guy who used to intern for me took a guitar construction or repair class and I'm pretty sure that's where it was held.

Yep, That's him. He always has some kind of classes going on.
There's a Luthier in nearby Indiana named John lynch who is supposed to be top notch, and then there is always Joe Campagna who I think is more of a electric guitar guy. He's in Clarendon Hills.
Always good to know at least a couple good Luthiers in the area.
