It is doubtful that the string could suddenly become "louder". What you are probably hearing is a slight twang/buzz which sounds louder because the sound is a little discordant and disagreeable. My bet for the cause of that is a poor slot at the nut (but that would only affect a non fretted string), or more likely poor string contact at the saddle.

That's what I thought myself. This sort of thing happens a lot in the springtime ... humidity changes can cause the relief to lessen. How high is the action on your guitar? Low action makes the guitar a lot more sensitive to things like seasonal variation and fret wear.
