Hi everyone,

Have a beautiful DS-2HMhA, which had great tone on every note when I first got it (about two months ago). In the last few weeks, it's developed sort of a 'fuzzy,' or 'sitar-like' sound on the first string, which doesn't seem as noticeable when I fret up the neck. Real annoying!

Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm probably going to call Collings during the week, but I'm hoping to get it fixed locally and not be away from it too long!

Thx in advance,

Dave in SLC

I know this sounds silly, but have you changed the strings? If it is only on the open string then it cound be a problem with the nut. Perhaps even some gunk in the slot.

Not silly at all! That was the first think I tried! Made sure to put on D'Ads medium gauge, too, since that's what the Collings folks recommend. Changing strings hasn't eliminated it, though.

The other interesting thing is the guitar was sent to me in Utah from back East - much less humidity out here. I keep a humidifier in the soundhole, but think my household humidity might still be less, and wonder if that's it.

Thx again,

Dave

Changes in environment can make the top rise or lower a tiny bit, but enough to perhaps cause some fret buzz. The neck might also have moved and might need a trussrod adjustment.

Found it!

My local Collings tech thought the slot was a little too flat - maybe the change in humidity - so he filed a bit more of an angle, and it was gone!

Thx,

The slot in the nut, right? I am having the same problem. First string only.
