I know this is not the preferred method, but I need to lower the action on my 00-2H just a bit (remeber I said just a bit). My luthier has made this tweak for me before on a couple of my Martin guitars by adjusting the truss rod and gave me a truss rod tool so I could do it myself.

Does the tool that fits the Martin also fit a Collings? The instructions he gave me were turn clockwise to lower the action and counter cc to raise it. Would that be the same with a Collings?

happyench ( may I call you happyench)
you are correct right to = tight,( lower ) left to loose ( raise ) but remember a little is a lot & it can take hours or days for the adjustment to take full effect & you must do it with strings off
unless you have a machinist friend build you a wrench shaped like the ones for Larrivee guitars
& have the end fitted with proper Allen hex size
( for some reason I think it is 5/32") I have done this & I use it as the seasons here in Ohio effect the action on my D-1A, but I would not go to the point of backbow on the neck
I hope this has helped in some way
Fred

Steve McCreary gave me wrench when I stopped by the Collings booth at NAMM in Nashville some years ago. At his suggestion, I made 1/4 turn adjustments with the stings on and the adjustments were immediately noticable. I used a Shaker Peg for a handle on the wrench and it worked perfectly. Use a wrench that has a ball end to make it easier to insert in the truss rod adjustment end, which is behind a brace. A bit tricky to engage but not impossible.

Randy I tried to use a standard Allen wrench with a ball end (strings on)& was fearfull I was not getting solid contact with the receiver end of the truss rod( might strip out)but it did not occur to me to use something as a handle
oh well I do have a custom made wrench now that works perfectly

The first time I tried to make an adjustment, I couldn't move the wrench! I spoke to Steve or Alex and they assured me it would be very hard to do any damage. I went back to the wrench, put the handle on for leverage and leaned in. Once I broke the nut loose, adjustments were a breeze. Once again, 1/4 turn at a time and you should notice some change in the relief. When the neck is close to straight (sighting from the headstock end down the neck) you may have to go to saddle reduction to achieve your goal. If that is the case, I'd take it to a good set-up person.

I emailed Alex at the factory, and he put a ball-end 5/32" hex wrench in the next post for me at no charge, and I'm in South Australia! That's what I call service. I used a wall plug for a handle.

John.
