Has anyone out there found a solution to the problem of having a pickup(jack socket whole) drilled.
I use a Fishman Rare Earth Custom Blend and as a pro player I need this pickup fulltime. The thing is I really don't want to drill a big whole in the spine of my newly aquired 0003G.
I didn't mind so much in the Gibsons I was using previously but a Collings is a different matter isn't it. The problem for me in having wires hanging around is that I tour constantly so this could be a real pain.
Please help.

Patrick.

Patrick, check this thread for details on a mini-jack mod. I presume it worked - maybe we'll get an update.

BTW I see you're playing a mile from me in London on the 28th - would like to come down but it's my birthday and I'm never entirely responsible for my movements on that day Roll Eyes

This looks good but as yet I can't find a quality socket. I'll keep searching and keep you posted. Thanks for the thread Peghead. Peoples concerns with the quality of the mini jack connection (I feel) could be addressed by Neutrik connectors and pro soldering. The cable on my Fishman is the Perfect Diameter for a 3.5mm socket and I'd just adapt a standard pro cable to fit the plug shown here.

Your a good man, enjoy yer birthday.

The picture shown is a Tip Ring Sleeve
two channel( sterio) plug which is designed
to channel small sterio components which use
mini sterio plugs to connect.

I think you might find it inadequate for
your pickup use.

The butt plug for fishman is not all than intrusive to my esthetic eye and all my Collings
now have fishman matrix pickups in them. Once
the decision to gig with a guitar seems to me
the plug or not to plug issue is then moot.

I understand purity of construction but ultimately it is a tool and as such must be
funtional not problematic. Mini plugs is just
not adequate IMO.

You could be right, maybe it's wishful thinking on my part. The actual stereo jack shown is the best one I could find, I need it for the mic/pickup stereo feed I send to 2 DI's on stage, and as the cable diameter from the Fishman is slight I figured the load in question would be managed by this Neutrik jack if I could find a quality socket. Maybe not. Thanks for the advice Stixx.
