I am new to this forum, but just recently purchased a D2H. Wonderful guitar! Anyway, I wish to add a K&K pick-up to it, which I have done to several of my past guitars. The problem is that I can't get the end pin out. It must be glued-in. Any suggestions??? I will play the guitar weekly in church through a large PA, so I really need the sound enhancement.
Hi Richard - welcome, and congratulations on the D2H!
The endpin is indeed glued in. (There was a short discussion about this some time ago - it's here ). Basically, if it won't come out with gentle persuasion (tried a very slightly damp cloth and twisting?) then you're looking at a skilled drilling and reaming job... ill-advised for the home-fixer, but no trouble for a good repairperson with the right tools.
(Someone also recently posted that it would be a good idea for Collings to offer a 1/2" hole and oversized strap pin as an option, and no-one could think of a single reason why they haven't done so...)
anyway, hope the K&K works out for you! Good luck!
Don't mean to upset your day but I thought you was dead? Seriously, to install a pickup they'd saw off the end pin. I wouldn't use anything over a 6 1/2" circular saw. Then, they drill the end pin out. be careful when your tightening it up in the drill press though. Then just ream that baby out a little bit and your about done. stick your pickup in , tighen' her in and fire her up. Not much to it.
Yea. My parents have a wicked sense of humor. Just kidding, my dad's middle name is Richard (and he was born in '33 before anyone knew who Richard Burton "the actor" was).
