I bought a new 0002H about three years ago(great guitar) but I have noticed that the back, especially, has developed what I can only describe as slight pinhole like marks in the finish. I have been playing and collecting fine guitars for thirty years and I know how to properly care for them, so I am sure it is not something I am doing that has caused these anomalies. Has anyone else experienced this? This should not be happening. No other guitar that I have owned(and I have had a lot of them) has ever developed these types of marks, and it is a little unsettling. The guitar is in absolutely mint condition otherwise.
Ive noticed on my 1 year old D2HAV that the finish is still curing a bit I guess as I can see that the wood was not filled. The finish seems to be tightening up and sorta sinking into the pores a bit more as of late. I wouoldn't think this possible but I see more evidence of this now than I recall. Just on the 1/4 sawn back of EIRW.
Maybe that's it.

Thanks for your reply, Warren. I think I know what you are referring to with regard to the finish sinking into the pores in the rosewood. I have seen that on many different guitars, almost like the paste filler that is used to fill the pores was not done to the right level and over time shrinks a little. These "pinholes" are somewhat different than that, though, and I am still not sure why it is happening.
I have some sinking into the grain on my OM3, about 2.5 years old. It looks different than the sinking on my Martin HD-28 (24 years old), and perhaps a bit more, but I guess I attribute it to the different finishing processes used. I have to hold the guitar into the light to see the holes, so I don't feel it has hurt the appearance.
If you are worried about it you should call or email Collings. They have always been nice to me on the phone. Ask them what they think.
