I have had the Collings recomended light gauge strings on my OM2H since I bought it. Sometimes the treble strings sounds a little rattley. I was thinking of trying med. gauge strings.

1. to maybe resolve the rattley effect and 2. to add some volume. Collings web site says it can handle it but has anyone tried med. on a OM2H?

I'd sure hate to mess anything up.

Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Thanks

I tried Medium on my Collings OM and I don't like it at all. It sound very tight and lifeness. It definitely gave me the impression that the top was braced for lights only though it should be save having Mediums on.

I tried it on both my OM1A and OM2HAV and have the same result.

Is the action too low now? you might want to adjust the truss rod to the correct relief and raise the saddle a little.

When I bought my OM3C, I called Collings to ask about mediums. They said they mediums would be fine. If the guitar has a belly bridge they feel there is enough glue surface for mediums. I had used nothing but mediums for 20 years so I pit mediums on it, but I didn't like the tone as much as with lights. I tested several time and decided I like the tone of the )M best with lights.

I guess I wasn't to clear in my description of my perception of my problem. The strings aren't buzzing as due to low action i.e. fretting out they just seem for lack of a better word rattly or to light gauge for the guitar. They just don't resonate freely the seem...weird. I can't really descibe it very well.

It seems that it wasn't that way when I bought the guitar a few years ago.

Maybe my playing style has cahnged and a little more agressive I don't know.

Thanks for the replies guys. Guess I could try meds next time and see if I like it or not.

I also found my guitars seems like it had lost its brightness and not vibrating as good after a year or so.. what I did is, I changed to another brand of strings and it became alive again!

You don't necessary need to step up to Medium but why not give it a try yourself? Nothing to lose.

You may also consider True Medium instead of Medium. It have medium on both E strings and B and have lights on A, D and G.
