The stock nut and saddle for all Collings is Bone.. I switch to fossiled Ivory saddle, nut and also pins for all my guitars with great results! I think Fossiled Ivory is even better than Ivory (not fossiled) vintage martins have had. I tried both and the fossiled ivory comes with much higher density and gives me a noticeably richer and bigger tone! The Ivory (not fossiled) give me a warmer and softer tone..

I purchased a lot of fossiled ivory stuff from Vintage Venture … their product are of high quality and they will do anything to satisfy their customer! I have no connection with Betz or Karen there but I really love their work..

I am an Ivory man and I am going to have Fossil Ivory End Pin and Strap Button installed as well! This time is just for the look! big grin

A Collings deserve it…

I have to jump in on this one as I've been following the "Ivory" discussion on the 13th Fret discussion board as well as this one.

I bought pins, saddle (and recently a strap botton and end pin) from Karen. Incidently, she is one great person to deal with. She has a lot of excitement for her job and it shows in her work.

I "think" I can hear a difference after putting in the saddle and pins. The sound seems to be less linear-more round and fuller. The sound I hear has more harmonics and sustain-it seems to add warmth without the "Martinlike" tone which sounds fuzzy and smokey to me. I'm not saying one is better than the other-just different. After all, if we all wanted the Martin sound-we'd buy Martins. I think Brian K Has a point in his comment about punch, I pretty much heard the same thing.

The long and short of this is, we all hear different things in our guitars, it is such a subjective discussion. If you try it and like it-it's good for you. I personally like the sound and I really like the look.

...just one man's opinion.
