To help answer questions from another thread Other Guitar Makers/High end guitars? p.9, here's a video on YouTube of a PLEK machine in action, dressing the frets of a Wechter guitar. PLEK video I saw this on the G&L forum a few months ago. G&L has been PLEK-ing their guitars for a year or two now, and most folks on the forum are happy with the results. I'm happy with my G&L Comanche VI re-issue Electric Guitars/Let's have another Leo moment which was PLEK'ed and it certainly plays beautifully.

Dumb questions, but hey:
1. Can you have your guitar(s) retro-pleked?
2. Approximate cost?
3. Would it void your warranty?
4. If (1) is yes, would you be best waiting for refret time, and do it in conjunction with, say, stainless fret wire?
I have no quibbles with the playability of any of my Collings, or the Alien, which plays itself, but I'm always interested in improvements. thanks tom

1 - I'm 99% sure that you can.
2 - Someone had mentioned that it's $200-300
3 - Depends on which company you're referring to. Collings? I think you'd have to ask them to be safe.
4 - That's probably a question best answered by an authorized PLEK'er.

So, where does one get Pleked? Can you say that on a family friendly forum? Getcha plek right here...... tom

I've been to Joe Glasers in Nashville once,seemed like a great guy.Watched him set up a vintage Tele on a Plek machine while I spoke to him about my D2HA.Alex at Collings actually refered me to him as a guy in my area that could check out my guitar for most anything.As I was leaving one of Peter Frampton's roadies came in and picked up a vintage Gibson SG for him.

Glaser PLEK'd my Borges (possibly the oddest sentence I've ever typed). I don't know him personally but the guitar is as smooth and even as any I've ever played, so he's doing something right.

Glaser PLEK'd my Borges as well, and I'd echo elambo's assessment of the playability post-PLEK. Kim Sherman arranged to have it done for me before I took delivery of the guitar, so I had no interaction with Glaser personally. I'm going largely off of memory, but I believe cost was around $200.

Elambo, do you think Music Gallery in Highland Park would do a good job on a Collings? Anybody in the area have any experience with this shop?

I've never dealt with Music Gallery so I wouldn't be able to help. There's a guy in Chicago near Ogden and Hubbard that does all my work. Tim Schroeder. His shop is in the same building as Make'n Music. He doesn't have a PLEK machine that I know of, but he does great custom fret work, and his setups are first rate. Actually, everything he does is top notch.

Is Music Gallery listed as a shop that will PLEK?
