Bryan, I try to install a Strap button on my New Collings. I drilled a hole on the treble side of the neck as suggested by the Collings Website. Ends up the angle is not correct and the bottom of the Strap button couldn't touch the wood of the guitar completely. Only one side of the bottom of the Strap button is not touching the wood..
What can I do?? |

quote: You're saying that the strap button doesn't sit flush with the heel, I think. This is a common situation and it's where experience comes in- getting that angle right. Depending on how far off it is, you can do one of two things: 1) get a dowel that that fits the hole, glue it in and re-drill the hole. Make the dowel a little shorter than the hole is deep, and then re-drill in the same hole with the correct angle. Nobody ever has to know! 2) if it's off by just a little bit, use a felt washer underneath the button. The washer will squish down and all will look good. You should use a felt washer under the strap button, anyway. Stew Mac sells them: http://www.stewmac.com The way I drill strap buttons is to: 1) remove the screw from the button 2) place the button square on the heel 3) drill thru the hole in the strap button, trying to approximate the angle that the screw will take. It helps a LOT to have someone help you line things up. 4) use a felt washer. This is how you'll re-drill the hole if you do Option #1 above. Bryan Kimsey http://www.bryankimsey.com |

Thanks Bryan,
I will probably add a thick washer to see how it goes.. The curve is deep due to the small neck of the Baby. Do you think it will help if I order a Strap button with a smaller bottom? |
