... is top-notch.

I've had my D1A for around three years now. Within months, two of the Waverly tuners started to come loose. That little nut with the notches - they call it the "tensioning bushing" came loose on three different tuners. I would tighten it as best I could with a screw driver and it would last a month or two before they came loose again.

Well, I finally called StewMac to see if they had a spanner wrench. They did but wanted to know what I needed if for. When I explained the stuation, they said they rather I didn't tighten them - what they needed was "re-tensioning." You take them all apart, clean off old loctite and reassemble with grease, loctite, and special nylon bushings. I asked if they had the parts.

The nice lady on the phone said "just send them in we'll send you some new ones as soon as we get them."

Now that's service! My D1A looks a bit naked right now. Hopefully it will just be for a few days.

And check out the pic. I couldn't help but notice how the nuts for the post supports are all lined up the same way. Another testament to the special care that Collings takes with each guitar. Of course, you can tell that every time you pick one up.

How timely a post! I just noticed that same problem on my one of my tuners. For the temp fix, how did you get a screwdriver on it? Did you just use the screwdriver on one slot beside the post, or is there a way to get the screwdriver into both slots?

I'm going to the new factory Friday, so perhaps someone in the maternity ward will be able to help out.

Glad you shared!

David

Yes, that's what I did. Stick a regular screwdriver into the slot and work it tight as best you can. They do sell a spanner, but like I said they don't like you to use it.

The come off really easy. Just take out the two wood screws in the back and they slide right out.
