Does adding more relief and raising the saddle affect the sound or tone of the guitar? If so, how? What if the neck is straighter?

Actually I've wondered the same thing. I have noticed a slight drop off in volume and tone when the neck is perfectly straight. Even if the saddle is high enough. The right combo for me seems to be just a bit of relief and the saddle at 3/32 off the 12th fret at the bass side and 2/32 at treble side.

Danny:
Having a straight neck does not change the sound, but it does change the amplitude of the vibrating string. What this means is that you cannot hit the string as hard without having it buzz, unless you raise the height of the nut and saddle. What I think you are hearing is not a softer guitar. You are hearing yourself hit the guitar softer. I hope this makes sense. |
