Hey all,
I just bought a D2H (so sweet, but do I need to tell you guys that?). I took it in to my friends at Old Town Pickin' Parlor in Arvada, CO to have a K&K put in. While it was in the shop, I asked about some swirly looking gunk (my term for it) on the back. They said they'd seen it before, and think it's the glue they used to attach the green velvety interior of the TKL case "leeching" through and onto the finish. They said they've seen such extreme cases that they've had to be sent in to Collings for warranty REFINISHING! They suggested contacting you guys and Collings, as well as possibly lining the case with pillowcases or something to see if it can be shielded at all. They had heard that the problem with the TKL cases was fixed, but not in my case (I keep using that pun, sorry!) Any knowledge of this or advice you can share would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Just got an email from Collings --

"My guess is that at some point the guitar heated up high enough to soften the finish while in the case, leaving the pattern from the case lining imprinted into the softened finish. This is called "Case Melt". Generally a light buff will remove the markings, but it is really determined on a case by case basis.
Once we get a little bit more info from you, we can resolve this.
Best Regards,

I'm hoping a little Petros Finish Restorer will do the trick -- have some on order and should arrive in the next couple of days.

I once bought a D 1 AV that was so bad with this it looked terrible. But that guitar had lived in the case literally for years. got it for a good price and about an hour with the Maguires and some elbow fixed it like new.

I used the Fender polish in the little kit they sell which is made by Maguires. worked like a charm.

Well, it turns out that whatever was on there came right off with some polish. Since it hasn't come back, I guess it wasn't from the case.
Thanks!
