I've been using Pearse phosphor bronze strings, mostly, for years. The preference is based on their longevity and consistency. When new, I can't tell a whit of difference between JP and D'Addarios. But this is the second place in as many days that I've heard something good about Firewire strings. Any opinions or experiences? thanks.

No opinion on Firewire...but I'm tempted to try them.

I've tried some others on my D1A and I find the JP Medium PB to be unbeatable in balance, longevity, and growl. I keep coming back to them....

I guess I have had a different experience, I find that the JP strings in general die quickly. I love the tone when they are new but in 3-4 days they are toast. I would use JP's for recording no doubt, but for playing out they won't cut it.

Howdy all,
Am new here, a proud owner of a D1-A. What a great guitar! I have had the best of luck with the Martin SP strings. These come in light, medium, and also a medium light set, which I use. These strings sound better than just about anything else. I've also tried the bluegrass set from Martin which has beefier (is that a word?) bass strings which a lot of players would prefer I'm sure. BTW- I installed an under saddle Schertler pickup (don't tell Bill) and plugged in this thing is in a league of it's own!

Hey David, I agree that from my experience as well the Martin SP's seem to be the best all-around string.13-56!

Just my 2Cents...

I use the John Pearse Phos/Bronz "Bluegrass" Med-lights the most on my Winfield. They don't seem to bother my skin chemistry.

I also really like the new Elixir PB Med/Lights.

I like a Med /Light string, but some times I order a custom set of JP PB for my Winfield. I go light on 3,2,and 1, med on 4, and go only ONE notch heavier on the 6th and 5th strings. That really gives the Winfield an even bigger whoomph...yum!!!

Regards,
Mac
