Hi, I have a Ds2h. It has always had a twangy "b", and last year the head was damaged at a gig.

I have written to collings at least three times asking for advice, guidance spare parts, etc., and not once have I had a reply.

I'm just wondering is it me, or the fact that I'm in the Uk ? or do they ignore everyone ?

I have serious GAS and have been eyeing a 002H, but frankly am becoming dis-enchanted with the company considering my impression of their customer service.

I'd appreciate any comments,

Andy

Interesting. I have the same problem on a 2002 D2H. I took it to the tecnician at the store where I bought it (a guy who does a very good setup, by the way) and he said "I don't hear anything". That blew me away. It's pretty bad. Subsequently, I've tried to tinker with the saddle, tried a tusq saddle and a FWI saddle (the sound obviously comes from the saddle area). Last year, I ordered a new bone saddle direct from Collings (for $25). I've tried replacing strings, but haven't really tinkered with a variety of brands and styles. It's got me wondering if it's just in the wood. I hadn't contacted Collings. Thinking about trying the tech here again. Very frustrating.

Andy,

Most people, including myself several times, experience just the opposite. Contacts with Collings almost always produce a prompt and genial response. I can't comment on your specifics, not knowing details, but I would encourage you to try again.

Brian, Alex, Steve or whoever picks up the phone or gets an email always seem to go out of their way to help. Try this: send an email to "sales@collingsguitars.com," and start the subject "Question for Brian," or something like that. Or if you've got an inexpensive international long distance plan, and can work out the timing, give them a call. I'll bet you get a response. Good luck.

Andy, nothing but first class folks there at Collings, and all my experiences have been positive. Everyone I know as well has always been pleased with their service. I'd just try them again.

If Bryan Kimsey is around he might venture a guess as to what is going on with your guitar.

Hi, I'm in the UK as well and am trying to find a good guitar tech. Most of them don't know the difference between Light and Medium gauge and just want to put 12's on everything.

Bob, the one UK guitar tech I can personally totally recommend is Bill Puplett. I trusted him to refret my 1960 ES-330 and he did a superlative job. He looks after Johnny Marr, Pretenders, Oasis etc - he’s very experienced and very careful. He’s in Harrow Weald, north-west London: a couple of hours from you. His number is 020 8954 1965. Hope this helps.

Rick
