I have a D2H that I bought used, that already had an LR Baggs M-1 pickup installed. I am thinking about removing the pickup since I don't use it at all, and was wondering if any of you knowledgable folks knew who might make a suitable oversize (1/2" I think) end pin might work and also look good Or, should I just leave well enough alone? Any advice is appreciated.

I am sure you could find someone in Georgia to make a end pin for you. Personally, my advice is leave well enough alone. Is it causing a problem? How old is the D2H? When I think about people having the nerve to do that in the first place I am amazed. The Taylor I have is the only one with electronics. And if I am playing out and need an acoustic I'll use that one. No way would I take my D3 out. That would be like ding magnet.

It should be no problem to find an oversized endpin. Most any good repairman would have one in stock.

I have put pickups in four of my five Collings guitars. Yeah, they might get dings but I bought these guitars to play not to treat as museum pieces. That being said, I am very anal about how I treat my guitars and I do cringe when they do get a ding.

MEP,
Couldn't agree more. I'm 55 and bought my OM to play. My 23 year old daughter's words of wisdom were, "Are you going to baby it so the next owner can brag about the condition of his 2000 Collings OM?" Think of the great old guitars you've picked up that had playing wear, and a few dings, and at the same time had that vibe we all dream about. A pristine 40 year old guitar that looks like it hasn't been played doesn't hold the same appeal to me. My OM has a Highlander installed by MandoBros to make it a more useful guitar that I love to play.

Thanks for all the replies. I too bought the guitar to play, although I enjoy lookin' at it too. Very nice guitar, bought it for the sound though. I don't intend to use the pickup. Didn't think about contacting Collings. I'll check with them and see what they would do. In the meantime, I'm playing on.
