Having owned both varnish and "Podium light" collings, it' my opinion that varnish models are not inherently lighter than their lacquer brethren. The Podium guitars are distinctly lighter, and more supple, especially in short scale. A varnish version of one of those guitars might be da bomb, the Big One.
