Getting ready to buy a Mac.(Sunday) Mostly for my visual impairment, but since it has garage band I might as well us it. My question is: they sell an professional recording software as a $600 upgrade. (think it is callLOgic pro) is it worth the extra money?

Alan, I'd say no. Take a look at Logic Express 8 instead. It's about $200 and more powerful than the Logic Pro you would have bought a couple of years ago. There are lots of other options too... but first, before you buy either, get the Mac home and have a go with Garageband. With a good mic and a Firewire soundcard, you'll be surprised what you can do with it.
