Not sure tis topic being covered b4. But anyway here it goes. What wud be the recommended pickup for my OM2H? There's lotsa of brands out there that I get confused sometimes. But I know recently there's a cool LR Baggs dual pickup, one wif a little adjustable vol control & batt indicators, fitted on the soundhole.

Heard that many staffs in Collings installed McIntyre Acoustic Feather Pickups with their own Collings Guitars.. Not sure if its true.. but the owner of Mclntyre owns a Collings and always use his Collings Guitar to demonstrate his pickup in shows..

You can get them at Stewmac.

I have more than one Collings, two of which purposefully don't have pickups. There is nothing better than standing in front of a good condenser mike. But when I have to be amplified, I like a dual source set up. It is a bit invasive, since you have to drill a small hole in the saddle slot, but the combination of mike and piezo does the trick. Personally, I use a Fishman Blender with mike and piezo. It works great.

If you're not playing in a band at high volumes where feedback is a big concern, then I think the B-Band AST 1470 / A-1 onboard endpin preamp is state of the art. It's active, perfectly balanced, easy to install, sounds great with little or no EQ, and much easier to use than a dual source system. Really, it's the most microphonic single source system I've ever heard--especially when paired with an outboard preamp/EQ like a Baggs PADI, or my personal favorite: the Raven Labs PMB-1 (this one works great for dual source set-ups as well).

I wouldn't recommend the dual source. It can cause feedback and many don't prefer the sound in a performance. I installed a ibeam (also a LRbags) and I have been very happy with it. It is flexable so when new technology comes out I won't be kicking my self for cutting into the guitar too much. Couple it with a great direct box and I get killer amplified sound.

I do many open-mics around San Francisco which involve playing into the house's PA. My '98 Collings D-1 is equipped with a Fishman Matrix active pickup and I think it works great. I also feed the signal through either a Stewart UDP-1 Pre Amp or BAGGS Para Acoustic DI pre Amp. Also, I use a plastic thumbpick and two metal fingerpicks when playing (except when flatpicking). I get LOTS of compliments on my tone, so I give this setup a real "thumbs up".

I received a LR Bragg brochure fm a music store. I'm looking at the I-Beam, RTS sound hole controller & Universal MIC/pickup mixing sys.
For the I-Beam, which is the prefer one, passive or active? The RTS wif vol controller mounted on the soundhole looks interesting but what happen if there's needs for feedback cover?

I wouln't mount anything on the sound hole - I like to have more clearance for my picking. Use a direct box with the controls on it -that way you can upgrade easily and I think their easier to use anyway.

I hear the PUTW (Pick Up The World) #27 are outrageously the real deal.

Anyone care to comment on this brand?

Carl does in fact use his Collings dread to demo his pickups. The Feather is made from basically the same piezo film as the PUTW, but the McIntyre Feather GF-30 has a more refined design. Check it out at www.mcintyrepickups.com. Carl will happy to answer your email or talk to you personally if you have any questions about the Feather from pre-sales to installation. Carl and his wife Judy are two of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet.

Jerry Douglas and David Wilcox are just a couple of professional musicians that use Carl's pickups.
