I played at the Rhythm Kitchen in Peoria last night. Got all set up and was doing my sound check. I use a Yamaha PA and use K&K Pure Western pickup through their Pure external preamp on the Collings and on Larrivee I use the B-Band A4/AST/UST straight into the PA. Collings/K&K sounded great, but the Larrivee had a real loud buzz. Sounded just like the time I got the nut filed too low on the third fret.

I set the Larrivee aside (usually use it for Opend D stuff) and played the Colling all evening.

About half way throught the first set I noticed the 8K slider on the Mains was pushed all the way up, so I pulled it back down flat and thought nothing more about it.

Today at home I was trying to recreate the buzz on the Larrivee and it sounded fine both plugged in and un-plugged. No Buzz!

I remembered about the 8K slider so I pushed it up and BUZZ!! there it was. Not fret buzz, just obnoxious high end.

Funny thing is that it had very little affect on the Collings/K&K - wonder if K&k cuts that frequency in their pickup or preamp? Anybody know?

Anyway, I'm just glad I don't have to take my Larrivee in for work. It's set up great and I'm very happy with it.

Hope I didn't bore you...

David
