Like to know whthr sound projection is judged fm the players' perspective or by the surrounding listeners who hear it? I hv seen a player commenting on lousy projection based on his own hearing, is it correct?

I have always thought "projection" refers to the listener, not the player.

When someone describes their guitar as "resonant" I always have thought that refers to a sort of enveloping of the player.....i.e., what the player hears when its "good".

Not sure if my understadning is correct, but that's been how I use the terms.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Tomcat, I think your H and D is a good example. It really sounds fantastic to you when you play it. All the way across the room, however, may be a different story.

I am sure your C10 really projects well.

I think projection is away from the player, toward the listener. I personally don't think this is very important these days. Chances are, if you are in a live situation where you need volume, you will have electronic assitance. I like guitars that sound good to me when I play them. After all, most of the audience doesn't really know the subtle differences that make a great guitar. I'm the one who paid for it, it I want it to please me.

Tomcat:

I agree with Lefty on projection. I think you would need to define the terms, but when I hear 'projection' it is what is coming out that others hear.

These days, a bad guitar can sound fairly good with the right electronic equipment. I also agree iwth Rockerbob, that one should buy what sounds to you and forget about projection.

Personally I love the vibration that all three of my Collings give me when I hit certain notes, for example, the g string. It sends a buzz right into my midsection if you know what I mean. And that is something that no one will get from projection. My 0002H will begin to vibrate and sound if I place my finger on a fret and start wiggling, without even striking a note. Now that is what I want to hear!

Hey guys, its a real comfort to hear yr reply.

WHat hv happened recently, I brought my C10 to a music shop owner to try. He hv earlier commented the C10 sounds nice. But later on, out of the blue, he wants me to sell it, sayings it does not project well. Fine enough if he says the gtr lacks tone, warmth, sustain, etc, fm a player's pt of views. I wl respect that views. But to say the gtr lack projection, while holding it, doesn't sound any bit logical nor fair to me at all!!

I hv attended numerous Classical gtr concerts, held in auditorium halls previously. Those Classical gtrs used are unamplified, pure acoustic sound, U cud hear every single notes, even vibrato, clearly, even if u sit right behind. NOw, shud not that be called good projection! Smallman gtr especially shine in such environment.
