I know this is an acoustic forum but I was wondering how many of you own/have owned/played a Don Grosh strat or tele? I'm guessing that some of the music shops where you bought your Collings also had a nice selection of boutique electric guitars. For those of you in the know, would you say the tone/fit/finish etc is the same/better than a Fender reissue when looking to capture that vintage vibe? Thanks!

I've owned a Grosh retro classic ("strat") for two years, after having owned at least one of almost everything else out there for 40 years. It's the best of its kind I've ever been around, and it blows Fender custom shop stuff off the stage. I bought it because Bill didn't make electric guitars. Now he does. Dilemma coming right up. But Don Grosh gets it right, and Bill's not making a strat type anyway. The build quality of the Grosh is, imho, equal to Collings. In other words, I can find no flaws in it at all.

I have a Don Grosh Tele. It is a great instrument with a really cool fat birds-eye neck. I too have been waiting to see what kind of electrics Bill would be putting out. If he ever makes a Tele, I'll be in trouble with my EGAS (electric guitar aquisition syndrom) returning after so many years. In the meantime, Don Grosh makes the best Strat and Tele copies IMHO.

I think Grosh's guitars are wonderful. His components are very well selected and his craftmanship is tip-top. As an alternative, there's John Suhr's guitars, for which I have a personal preference (his setup from the factory is exactly as I'd want it and I'm crazy for his pickups), but you're splitting hairs at that level. Either one can be the "right" choice. On top of it, Don is a great guy.

I own a retro classic Grosh, and it's by far the best strat style guitar I've ever played. Less expensive than Fender custom shop, and waaaaaay better built, playing, and sounding. Not close.
