I found this information about the development of Collings electrics on the Fretboard Journal Blog website.

http://fretboardjournal.com/blog/index.php/page/5/

"As you may have read, Collings tried out a lot of pickup manufacturers before settling on the Lollars they now all use. One thing I hadn’t seen previously was this prototype electric guitar that Collings made so that they could quickly try out different pickup combinations and A/B several without a ton of installation work."

I'm amazed that they used such a nice flame top for a beater prototype.

Shit, you got me under the influence of Tequila and Snow Cap Ale once again....oh, well...

Ed (Special Ed) worked a lot with Bill, Aaron, and several others to find the best pickups for the amazing pieces of wood without electronics. It's really screwing me up...I was soooo ACOUSTIC...It's been sooo long since I'd played all that Zeppelin and Dead on my electrics and through the 8 12" speakers of all those stacks...I always knew I'd never left being a teenager!

They did some incredible trial and error/R&D with the electrics. Now, I'm loving my I35 and my 290 and have a custom CL with maple binding and P90's being made. I also have a '58 reissue, custom shop tele and a '66 jaguar and mandocaster. That being said, the Collings are all I seem to play...especially the I35 when I play electric lately.

Bill and the folks just DON'T do things 'half-ass'. All the Collings stuff is top notch and spot on. While I have a few other brands, I am a loyal Collings player...without a doubt.

I'll be at NAMM week after next with Collings and I'll have some new eyes and ears on checking out the electric guitar amps, etc...I'm looking forward to the trip.

Lollar is a magician in himself...

What's not to love...

Shit, you caught me with tequila again!

Kia Manuia,

Dale
