They both sound great, but the concensus from people that have heard both is that the amberburst has a little sumpin' extra. I did switch out the bridge Lollar for a Voodoo '59 in that one, but there isn't enough of a change to make me think that is the difference. At first I wasn't sure about the Lollars, but I'm coming around on them. The main thing that is keeping me from swapping all the pups out is I don't want to mess up the amazing wiring job inside.
Feel wise, they are pretty comparable. I play both out, it's just that the amber has a piezo so it gets used in sets where I need acoustic sounds.
Weird that you mention the pick scratches. They are all over the place on both. From the very first gig too. Have never seen that before. Must be a really thin coat of clear on these. BTW, they don't hand buff out either.
