Just a murmur of praise for my beautiful '62 RI Strat. 'Ol Leo was a visionary. Any other Strat players out there?

You're right about Leo,Kid.I love the pre 2000 62 reissue Strats. Your SB is a beauty!

I got back into bands around 86 and didn't have an electric so I called Buzz at Lark St. Music and told him I fancied a Strat and he said he had a great Fiesta Red 62 RI and sent it to me. Wow! It was a great one and I used it for a number of years before selling to a friend. He traded towards a Charlie Christian at a guitar show a few years back... it is sorely missed.

This past Winter I picked up a new Highway 1 upgrade black/rswd. board and a 60's Classic Players Strat in Sonic Blue... my son and I are really enjoying them. Both have great cluck in the 2&4.

Howdy, Cowboy. I know what you mean about these '62's. Mine is actually an '83 and plays great. I agree about the 2&4 positions-Classic Fender tone.

I've got a number of Strats...too many! A lot I've put together as partocasters, of which I like more. I still have a few true Fenders that I've held onto.

I did let this one go about a year ago...to help fund something else. Yes, a Collings...

Not exactly a strat. I play a G&L Legacy. I think Leo did some pretty good work after the Fender years.

Big Strat fan here. Can't seem to sell off the stragglers either. Only one actual "Fender" but the others are copies of that original design anyway. I always buy from Suhr these days, but John Suhr headed up the custom shop at Fender for a while, so they're cousins, sort of.

Not to come on like a heretic, because we owe Leo the same kind of debt we owe CF Martin, Lloyd Loar, and the like, but I've been through a bunch of Fenders and a couple G&L's, and have had a Don Grosh Retro Classic for the past two years, and it is far and away the best strat style guitar I've had. Collings quality fit 'n finish, superb Fralin pickups, a blend knob instead of the second tone knob, and just magical strat vibe. To repeat, that vibe would never have existed but for Leo and George and the (mostly) guys in Fullerton. But Grosh does it for me. He has to, now that my brief marriage to the I-35 deluxe was annulled by the tax man.

I know exactly what you mean, Sonoman. Leo had the original idea and, way back then, the products Fender put out were fantastic. Nowadays, I think you almost have to go to the custom shop to get what used to be commonplace. Mass production has its drawbacks and I believe quality suffers when you attain such high numbers as Fender does now.

I don't have a nice professional photo of mine, but here it is. It's a '57 reissue that I bought about 25 years ago. I was my main electric guitar for many years, even though I had many other nice ones.

Ouch! How much does he want for that Grosh? GAS attack, big time. The color, the neck dimensions, the whole thing.....jeez Louise! Color me interested.
