Is it a trend? Who will be next? Would it be easier or more difficult to build electric than acoustic? Or a big market for high end electric guitar that no one is capturing?

I had seen that. Here's my take, albeit from a retailer perspective.

Gibson is pretty much on a "Guitar Center Only" strategy. There are only a handful of small dealers still carrying Gibsons. That leaves a whole lot of "boutique" dealers, with loyal customers, with no Gibson-style guitars to sell them.

Just think of all the Taylor dealers who can't carry Gibson. They now have a "Les Paul" of sorts to sell to their customers.
