Here are some pics of my new Collings 290, in TV Yellow, with solid-black pickguard and black headstock.
It's hard to take a good pic with my little point-and-shoot, so I hope that the true hue of the TV finish comes through. It's not a vivid yellow, as some pics show - but a very creamy yellow, with lots of wood-grain showing through. Very much like the '57 Special - a dead ringer, in fact (I used to own a '57 Junior in TV Yellow). hakujin This message has been edited. The two Lollar P90's are amazing! I liked them so much that I bought two of his Imperial Humbuckers for my Epiphone Elitist Broadway 17-inch archtop.

I don't have any complaints - I really love this guitar! The only thing that I would change is the fact that there is only one dot inlayed on the side of the fret-board, at the 12th position. It threw me off, at first...

I think that you took some good pictures that portray its true color. It is very hard to capture the grain of the mahogany showing through the finish.
TV yellow must be the chosen color. That is four of us on this forum with a TV yellow and various forms of the pickguard. It really is a nice guitar and plays and sounds so much better than the LP Juniors or specials that I have compared it to. Congratualtions on yours |

Great pics, a lot better than mine, the black looks great. It is hard to get a good photo that shows the grain. How do you like your amp with this guitar?

Thanks, guys
Ashman, the 290 sounds wonderful and very 'authentic' though my '64 National 'Studio 10' tube amp. Everything from a bell-like jazz-tone (rhythm-pickup with the tone rolled-off) to growling blues snarl. The pups have a lot of dynamics - you can really lean into them. The Lollar humbuckers are the same way - lots of range. One feature that I really appreciate is the noise-canceling effect that results from having the two single-coil pickups in-line at the same time (middle-position). I'm intending to use the Lab Series 'L5' solid-state amp for live gigs (100W, 2-12's). It was designed by Robert Moog (late 60's) and is the amp that BB King used. The tone-shaping circuits in this amp are amazing - you can get almost any sound, if you mess-around long enough. MEP - I was surfing to buy a Custom Classic Telecaster when I saw the words "TV Yellow" in my search-engine results. I had once owned a real, made-in-1957, Les Paul Junior, TV Yellow with a single dog-ear P90 - so it caught my eye. I agree with you - the Collings 290 is the best $2000 electric guitar available - it blows away any Gibson or Fender in its price-range. hakujin _____________________ "She's ported and relieved and she's stroked and bored.
