One thing worth mentioning - the Rock formula is similar to but slightly brighter than the Original formula. Not drastic, but noticeable. I use original on all guitar except for one Les Paul that has a tendency to be a little too dark at times.

Yep, that's the email address I used. Nothing yet. On the alloy, since the Grosh is old school single coil I can't see going anywhere buy original. I don't need extra crispy. thanks tom

Okay, it's been a week and three emails later, and still no snake oil. I'd love to buy a set or four, but I'm 3000 miles away and my Buick wouldn't make it that far. so, what's plan B? Pure Nickel D'Addarios? SIT? Slap some vanilla Elixers on there and cave in? Shut up and play? Help me out here. You'd think a small company with a quality product would be motivated to respond. K&K sure did when I first looked into their pickups, which I now swear by, much as y'all swear by Snake Oil. But I can't swear by it while I'm still swearing at it. Guidance? Medication? both? thanks, tom

You could just bite the bullet and order a set or two via the website. I'm sure that would finally get a response. Although given the fact that he hasn't responded to a simple email, I wouldn't be surprised if you were a bit cautious. I would be if I hadn't dealt with Dean before.

Although now that I think about it, I remember that he kind of fell off the planet the last time I'd talked to him. I was in the midst of buying a BJF univibe pedal and he more or less disappeared while we where figuring out the details. Hmmm... I haven't ordered strings since then either so I don't really know what's going on there. Sorry. They're great strings and I wish it were easy to get your hands on a set.

Alternatives? I guess I can't offer a suggestion. I haven't used other brands in quite a while.

I've just tried to contact him as well to see "wassup." If I happen to get a response I'll let you know.

I ordered a few sets from the website last week and haven't gotten anything. No confirmation email and obviously no shipment.

Service with a smile ... Smile

Dean got right back to me. He said that he's very busy and often has to deal with AOL's spam filter, which might be chewing on your email Sonoman. I've asked him for an alternate contact.

Mike - I don't remember ever getting confirmation emails after I'd placed orders in the past. I know that this does nothing to ease your mind. It is definitely an odd feeling to pay for something and not even get a confirmation. I'll mention this to him as well.

Thanks Eric.

It's no biggie. Not remotely. I figure it'll get processed and shipped eventually. I just tossed that observation in here because of Tom's comments.

I'm looking forward to playing the strings.

Sonoman,

Hang in there - we'll get you in contact somehow. Trust me, the strings ARE worth the hassle. Because his strings are of a different composition than others, Dean often has to deal with raw material supply issues. The first order I placed with him took nearly two months to fill. Frustrating? Yes. Do I still use them? Yes. I was somewhat heartened to hear your comments about K&K, as I've e-mailed them 3 times in as many months for more information without a response of any kind. I'm sure K&K makes a great product and that they are good to deal with. As you understand well from your reciprocal experience w/ SOB though,it's difficult to have much faith without some contact.

I did bite said bullet and order five assorted sets. If it takes two months, life goes on. I've been waiting for the CJ varnish since October. But if they're really that good, I'm gonna want a stock on hand. One bridge to burn at a time. thanks for all your help, fellow wackos. tom

I'd order four sets today if I could get his attention. Can't afford guitars (the CJ varnish is mostly paid for), but I can sure swing strings. thanks for your help. I'm a ready teddy. tom

Hi Sonoman,

I do not understand why AOHELL is so messed up these days. I reply to every email I get. You can call me at (727) 729-1965 to order the SOB strings okay? I'm here to help you in any way I can. And it won't take months to receive either!
BTW, the SOBs LOVE Bill's guitars.....go figure why?
Best
