Greetings All,
A good friend of mine works at Collings, and I've been trying to convince him for some time now that they should build a hollow or semi-hollow electric. Since Taylor has been having so much success with their ghastly T5, I think if Collings made a REAL electric it would do well. I know the guys in the office there check this board frequently, so what do y'all think? Would anyone buy one? If so, what would you want to see made? -Matt |

i think they should stick to acoustics and start making something other than Gibson/Martin interpretations. Not that what they do is not okay with me, but I'd rather experiment with a new design of an acoustic, a baritone guitar, a harp guitar with super trebles, etc. etc. let's get creative! And have fun doing so!

No I would not buy one. Collings doesn't need to get into the trendy habit of introducing new products twice a year.

If Bill had any passion for electric guitars, he would already be doing them. The passion is what makes his instruments so good.

And the trouble is, how could Collings possibly do it any better than Martin already has?

OH. My. God.!!! Peghead , that photo makes me want to stump for censorship on the internet. Some things should just not be allowed.F.

That D-41E is a one off that was never a production guitar. THIS is the true Martin electric acoustic--the 1959 D-18E (as made famous by Kurt Cobain on MTV unplugged). BTW, its a great guitar unplugged and plugged.
And, IMHO, Collings should stick with what they're doing. Clem D1A DS1AH...a SERIOUS guitar MT2V 290 mit Stetsbar various non-Collings things with strings ![]() |

Why not just have them build cars, or toasters, for all the similarity between acoustic and electric guitars?

I must never look back at this thread again... or else turn to salt!

If Bill and Bob feel so competitive shouldn't they just race their cars to settle it LOL? After talking to Bill's co-pilot on the drive back from Driftwood I know who my money's on! It's been said that growing old is realizing you'll never have all the dogs or guitars you want. |

Hmmmmm......I'm not sensing a lot of support for the idea. LOL
I don't think it's as big of a stretch as it might seem. Bill HAS made many electrics in the past, and I know they are currently working on a floating pickup system for the archtops. No one else would like to see a Collings treatment of a 335 or 175? |
||||
|
Surely what makes a great acoustic guitar is also the same for an electric, great tonewoods, great build and great design. I would love to see a 335 type guitar from Collings maybe a blonde maple one with tortoise bindings, I would buy one.
