I'm a fan of the earlier Fender Tweed amps and there simple design. I've owned my share of the real deal ones but theres no reason that with patience, the right parts, and right tinkering that the clones can't sound just as sweet.

I've currently got a Pierson Champ clone with a 12" Celestion Blue and it absolutely sounds stellar. NOS tubes and it just gets better everytime I play it. My 290, my Tom Anderson Classics and even my Old Wood are truly amazing with just a little delay and a Compressor added. Just roll down the volume knob on the guitar and it cleans up nicely. Best thing about the clones is you don't have to worry about Blowing out a Vintage Jensen and no cold solder joints.

When are we going to have a Collings Electric Guitar Gathering?

Rock On,
Papple

Papple, I bet a vintage 335 would sound good thru that amp of yours!

Kenny I've got a refinish '64 335 (original PAFs) and I was thinking the same think. L. Carlton era Dan tone.

Yo Kenny,
I'm afraid to stop by your place as to what might transpire. I've always had a love for ES 335 guitars and I don't know if I could stand the temptation.
It's sort of akin to a pretty woman. I'm happily married and afraid of the unknown. Coming home with a new guitar is a big "Unknown" as I might end up living in the garage.
Best,
George

Allen -
As a friend, I thought I'd mention that the speaker's upside-down.
Get it right, dude!

David's always so kind and thoughtful. He only commented on the speaker. He didn't even mention the upside down tubes or the fact that there is no picture tube. Even my black and white Magnavox looks better than that. Get it right, Dude, indeed.

The speaker sounds better upside down. Try it in you drri. You'll see...

The tubes are upside down to keep all the eletrons from running out all over the floor, Jim. Trust me. I'm an engineer. I do this sort of stuff for a living.

Keep the electrons from running out all over the floor - like drinking from the other side of the glass? That really did make me luagh out loud!

Just for completeness, here are a few shots of my Champ after all my tweaking. I've got it in a 12" combo cab with a Weber ceramic speaker. The two toggle switches on top will alter the gain of the preamp tube or the output tube separately so you can get preamp distortion alone, output distortion alone or both together.
