Eric thanks for the very kind words - they are very encouraging! Thanks for taking your time to watch. It is great to know you love Slow Creek as well! Isn't that just a great song - it does take me to a quiet place away from phones, and people along the creek bank somewhere. Shoot me your email via-youtube or however you wish and I'll get the tab right out to you. Again thanks for your encouragment.

What strings are you currently using?

Still using the D'Addario 11's that match the ones it was shipped with. I guess I will try something different next change. What do you use?

The big flatwound string sound is one path to great jazz tone, but there are others. I took a couple of seminars with Tony Purrone, who has played and recorded with, among others, the Heath Brothers. He does it differently: a Gibson ES-335, light to medium strings, and a teardrop Fender jazz pick. He is a smokin' bebopper with a great jazz tone.

Hi Philco,

Beautiful guitar. How are you able to tell that it was the 35th made? Part of the serial number?

Incidentally, we share similar musical profiles.

Asked by Gregory: How are you able to tell that it was the 35th made?

Your question got me wondering. I think that is approximately what Steve at AMW told me when I bought it late last year. I just looked and through the f hole the label appears to have 6037 on it which must mean something other than serial number? Maybe Steve said 37th? Maybe somebody here knows. At 48 early signs of Alzheimer's are setting in. Hope that's not in your profile too Gregory! What was the question again? Roll Eyes

Well, I guess the digits in a serial number can mean any number of things. Mine is 7158. Maybe Alex at Collings can shed some light on this. I was asking whether we can tell the build number of our I-35s, just out of curiosity. No Alzheimer's for me, although sometimes distractions may make me appear otherwise.

Incidentally, and this may sound corny, but I've had a blast playing "Walk, Don't Run" by the Shadows on the I-35; bridge pickup, max the tone, and lots of reverb or echo.

Incidently Gregory...did you get your sig quote from the American Masters: Chasing Sound special on Les Paul? For those guitar fanatics on this forum (I guess that is all of us?) who haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to check it out. I believe they may have put it out on DVD now. Very well done and just fascinating stuff.

I don't remember where I picked up the quote. I do remember that it appealed to me because, at the time, I was encouraging my students to read less, to avoid being influenced by the work of others.

I saw Chasing Sound. American Masters puts out very good shows. Definitely worth seeing.
