I say keep them all...

I have kind of been going in the opposite direction. After acquiring 5 Collings, a couple of Martins, a couple of Taylors and a Goodall...now it seems that I am getting electrics. Two Andersons and a Grosh set neck, a Fender strat plus a Dr Z amp, Rivera amp and Fender Blues Deluxe. So far, I'm not selling anything off, just collecting.

In the past few years I have sold or traded a bunch of other guitars and everytime I get rid of one, I regret it. So now I am being very picky about what I buy so that I'm not in the catch and release program.

Dan, Good luck on selling off the ele. stuff. I'm in a similar position with tons of ele. guitars, amps, and effects. I still play ele on occasion but it's like if you don't use it, you lose it. I find no relative use for practicing to play ele guitar. When I do play, it's in church and the requirements are not that demanding.

I am trying to sell my 1967 ES-335 that I've had since high school... and then take that money and invest in a harp guitar. I brought the guitar to a guitar show yesterday and got much interest but only one serious buyer who will probably make me an offer on it in the next few weeks. At the show, many people bring in their own equipment, stand out in the hallways, and usually tape a for sale sign on the case and wait for a prospective buyer to come along. Then you have some fast and furious selling as people realize that the dealers are asking $5,000 for an instrument that a private seller is asking only $4,000 for a similar instrument. Who do you think makes the quicker sell?

I swear I'd never sell my 335, but things are different now and I just don't play it. So, why have all that $$$ sitting in something I don't play when I could be playing a harp guitar or a nice Collings.

Good luck selling your stash. I think the amps would go fast if priced right at a guitar show somewhere.

i'd keep the strat and the princton reverb.
Sell everything else for if you are like me
you will never go back to loud electric playing
any more except when you jam with buddies once
in a great while. That has been my experience.
I had enough electric gear and PA's to fund almost all my GAS for the last five years and
yes, I too started out with a Collings OM2H. It
has been a great converstion. I did keep my strats and my Vibralux as well as a studio amp
for recording. Everything else except my bass and my Godin Multiac , I have sold and funded
more wood guitars that I didn't even need. LOL

Collings D2HSB Lyle
Collings DS2HMhA Bubba
Collings M5 Deluxe "Mandy"
Collings SJ Cedar "Sara Jane"
Collings OM 2H "Colleen"
Some nice Martins

Hi Dan...

I sort of did this. I really caught the acoustic bug last summer...but, it had been building for awhile. Since then, I play about 80-90% acoustic and have been taking flatpicking lessons. I sold off a bunch of electric gear late last year to (eventually) get another acoustic guitar to go with my HD28V since it now seems more important to have a RW and Mahogany dread than a Strat and Tele :-). So, maybe after tax time I can finally pick up the D1A or H&D TDM that I long for...

But, I didn't sell everything. I kept a great Tele, a low wattage amp, and a few pedals from the major food groups. I know that I'm fickle enough that I might go back (although I doubt it) and there are probably more gigs out there for electric players or someone that can do both.

So, I agree with the recommendation to keep the Strat and the PR. Just in case...

Mr. Nelson, is that you??? Dang boy! Yeah, the Feds are still trying to track down that mule team running amps across the border. They'll never catch us!!! I hear you've been known to employ liberal pinkos from Moscow from time to time to mule as well.

Actually, Tom and Joan were supposed to house sit for me week before last, but those crazy kids ended up boozing it up in downtown Seattle, and crashed at some sleazy flop house in the U district.

Oh, back to guitars, Actually, Tom was the first person I talked to about my purist quest, and he says I'm not quite as crazy as I sound. For a pinko liberal, he's a pretty good guy. And with a wife like Joan, he definately qualifies as an over achiever, ay?

Stay in touch, and if you're down south on the wet side, drop a line and stop in. You always have a place to stay and a Collings to pick!

Dan

Yep, it's me. I get around a little too much on these forums Big Grin.

I actually get down there every few months on bidness. Unfortunately, it's usually just for a day of meetings. I'll try and stop in sometime if schedules allow.

Tom and Joan are good people...we are lucky to know them.
