Sonoman-
Yes, Bill is always making improvements, presumably right up to the point where he releases a new model, but your post implied that he's still improving the CL - a model that is already released. Is that the case? Will there be a CL MarkII or has he taken that design as far as he wants to and is working on other models? I'm not sure why I'm having trouble understanding your previous statements, sorry.
And do you feel that there's a correlation between the apparent wider availability of CLs and your statement that the I-35 will be a "more improved" guitar, implying that the I-35 is more sought-after because it's closer to perfection? Correct me if I'm wrong because I've read you last post twice and that's what I gather.
In any case, as an owner of a CL and several high-end Les Pauls, I can't exactly see much room for design improvements, outside of the subjectivity of the tone of its pickups and it's aesthetics, which I happen to love. If Bill is still working on this guitar and there will be another release I'd love to know what's going to be different.

Elambo,I hate to jump in here before Sonoman replies but I have a ? 4 U. Can you compare yourhigh-end LP's and CL for us.
I have a 2003 59 RI LP and can't imagine there's anything that I'd like more. I did play a CL unplugged and got kind of a more PRS vibe than Gibson.....more refined not as primitive. What say you?

Done. http://collingsforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8021042224/m/3471000644
And I'll add this - although I certainly understand your association to PRS while it's unplugged, I've never felt any similarity afterwards. Similarities are somewhat expected since they're both modeled after the Les Paul.

Thanks, That's good reading! I've been trying to avoid the Collings electric thing but know I'll have to look closer eventually. I have a 59 RI LP and a 61 SG RI and love them both but tuning is quirky now and then. I've had them both set up and leveled out and they play/sound great but I'm sure the Collings are more stable and precise.

I have tuning issues with each and every one of my Gibson-branded Les Pauls. Chicago is fortunate enough to have one of the country's best guitar tech's and I've had him setup each of my Les Pauls yet I still tuning problems. It's very frustrating. The Collings stays in tune for days, not minutes (did I already say this somewhere).
