Seems like we've got a number of Grosh players here. I'm thinking about going for a Grosh Retro Classic VT and a Carr Mercury amp. My previous experience with Fenders were all pre-CBS models back in the day. Anyone here have a Grosh Retro Classic VT, and if so, what do ya think? Already heard from the Grosh Strat players in another thread; I'm looking for comments on the Grosh Tele.

Sorry, my bad. Should have put this in "Other Guitar Makers".

The only Grosh tele is the best of its kind I have ever played. A rival might be tom anderson, but if you want the best of what Leo did when Leo did it, you can hope someone stuck a '54 in the closet, or you can buy a Grosh for ten percent of the cost. I've played my Grosh retro classic (strat style) for four years now, and it is flawless. Feel, playability, vibe, electronics, are as good as it gets. If Bill made a strat, I would be surprised if it could top the Grosh. So simple, so right, so versatile. My band talked me out of electric retirement four years ago, and I got a Grosh retro classic, mint, at a thievery price. Metallic deep blue, brazilian board, birdseye neck, Fralin vintage hots with a SP43 in the bridge (the only really useable strat bridge pickup I've had in at least 15 strat style guitars. That said, my son, now 28 and a great player brought up in a house where a '94 Borgeois JOM one-off was the beach guitar, thinks a hollow Anderson tele may be his favorite electric- except for the grieved-for Collings I-35 and the Grosh detailed above. I personally wouldn't even think about a Fender custom shop. Grosh kills them; not close. to quote Jack: as good as it gets.

TomF - I have a Grosh Retro Classic VT and I adore it. I've just recently gotten into electrics in the past 3 years. I mostly play acoustics and now the mandolin. I started out with a standard American Fender. Had it a year and sold it. Tried a Grosh and there was no comparison. The attention to detail, finish, hardware, pickups, beautiful woods... and the neck. That Grosh neck is the most comfortable neck I have ever played (in addition to my Collings acoustics). And then you get to the most important element...tone. I was at Mass St. Music yesterday looking at amps and played the Grosh VT's against and Anderson and Nash Tele (both nice guitars). To me the Grosh tele was superior... but that's me! If you're in the market for one Mass Street has 2 outstanding examples. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

BAR, my order must have missed you by an hour or so Wink I had been talking to John and Grant the last few days about the Grosh RCVT, the one in sunburst with the Braz fingerboard, and I bought it yesterday afternoon. I had been back and forth on the issue of whether to add an electic to the herd, but once I made the final decision, man was I glad I did.

For me this is a classic case of back to the future. I started playing electrics when I was 13, and went through a fair number of vintage Gibsons and pre-CBS Fenders. Stopped playing electrics after college, and went exclusively acoustic about 30 years ago, and this will be my first electric after all those years. For what I'm looking for, this Grosh fits the bill perfectly. And hey, next month is my Birthday, so I can't think of a better present.

Good to hear your lovin yours. BTW, as usual, the folks at Mass Steet were great to work with.

Tom - so if I read your post correctly, did you get that lovely darker sunburst that was hanging on the wall? The one I played? If that's it.... what a guitar! And congratulations! I walked out with a Dr. Z Maz Jr Reverb.... ooops. Sounds jaw dropping good with a Grosh tele. The Mass Street folks are the best!

Yup, that's the one Big Grin And congrats to you on that sweet amp you bought. Glad I don't live as close to Mass Street as you do. I'd be flat broke in no time at all.

An amen to working with Grant, or Jim at Mass Street. That Grosh you got, Tom..... whew. You certainly have refined tastes. That means you agree with me. I do like Andersons a whole lot, but I have to give the edge in solid bodies to Grosh. Now, when you're talking Gibson style, you're talking Collings. I've already given my sob story about selling the I-35 deluxe. The Grosh gets me through, big time. Not a hitch, or a neck adjustment, or anything but great tone in all five positions (sort of an abridged Kama Sutra). Mercy!

Small world ... I actually ordered the used Tele last night without even having seen this post. Hopefully it's still there!

Having sold half a dozen guitars in the past few weeks and redistributed the money to more "worthy" causes, I figured now was a good time to pick one up.

Having had four teenagers in the house simultaneously, all of them competitive swimmers, I know what "worthy" cause meant in our household: ten gallons of milk a week, to start with. That was the "one acoustic, one electric" era. Maybe making a comeback with our oh so fair economy. The reason they call it "fixed" income: it's broke. tom

Mike, cheers amigo. That one's a beaut, and I'm sure it sings. Seems like we depleted the Mass St. Grosh/Tele inventory this weekend.

Funny, I was taking my daughter to a movie Sat. afternoon and I thought about waiting until Monday to lock in the buy on mine, but something told me these gits were gonna move. Ended up closing the deal on my cell phone from the theater. Glad I did Wink Enjoy. BTW, if anyone knows how to move this thread to "Other Guitar Makers", where I really should have started it, feel free.

Question for Tom, Mike, etc...what type of music do you like to play on your electrics that pointed you toward the Grosh VT as opposed to the retro Classic Strat version?
