Well, I explained to Curt that I was looking for a Fender Blackface clean sound....this is the formula he is recommending:

"Sounds like a lower gain preamp tube (12AT7), a 6L6, and 5AR4 rectifier would be a good starting point in a Superbaby.
I can tune yours to be a little cleaner and brighter than stock, given that you aren't going for the overdrive/distortion."

He offers a nice option called the mad scientist tube experimentation set:

Which consists of:
- 3 Rectifiers -

Ruby 5Y3GT

NOS US 5R4WGB

Valve Art 5AR4/GZ34

- 6 Output Tubes -

Ruby 6L6GC

Valve Art KT66

Tung Sol 6V6

Mullard EL34

THD YellowJacket EL84 socket adaptor (YJUNI)

JJ EL84

Electro Harmonix EL84

- 3 Preamp Tubes -

selected modern 12AX7

NOS US 12AU7/5814A

NOS US 12AT7

His amps self bias, so you can swap tubes all you want. I have done a fair amount of research and can only find rave reviews of Curt Emery and his amps.

Cool! Love that tube swapping idea. I think I posted way back at the beginning of this thread about a Victoria Regal that blew me away, but the Regal II is even more attractive: You can mix and match all major kinds of power tubes (6L6, 6V6, EL84, KT66) and run either one or two at a time without sacrificing tone. How? A transformer with two discrete wirings.
