It is indeed JM. I'm not exactly sure if that's his guitar or merely borrowed.
Speaking of John, the amp I originally went looking for is posted in another video from the Grammys. It's a Two Rock that John played a couple years ago for the song "Daughters." I was in the market for an amp like this and my dealer said, "I can get you one, but it's on its way to the Grammys - Mayer is playing it live. I can sell you THAT one if you don't mind it being used..." Uh, no, I don't mind.
John has a few of these. This particular one went back to the designer after the show for an evaluation before it shipped to me, so it was essentially new after all. A complete matter of good timing, I lucked into it.

love this clip, and wow how about the # of hits! I was so pumped to see him with a Collings - I'm just thinking it is his and would just as soon not know any better! I'm guessing affording it wasn't an issue.lol
I'm happy for you what a great piece of gear and story!
I was also thrilled when his video on the 35 was in the listing next to my video with the same guitar. That's as close as I'll get to him in many ways! Thanks for sharing a great story, dale.

Too funny. I also have a TR amp that John owned and used on tour for a bit. And an I-35, which I like a lot more now that I've had it rewired 50s style.

I don't think JM sold it; he used it for some gigs then gave it back. It ended up with a TR dealer I know and then with me. It's a Custom Reverb Signature but it has a bunch of the "unobtainium" parts that they used for the Kimock signature amp. It sounds pretty different from stock CR Sigs. (I have one of those as well) Cleaner, brighter, sweeter.
When John had it, it was in the standard black tolex box. I swapped that out for a tan suede box. Much sexier.
BluesWest: John posts videos on YouTube under his own name. And the playing mannerisms are pretty identifiable.
Yes, that's John's youtube account. There's also a quote somewhere where he talks about the guitar. I'll try to find it.
Do you know when John was using that TR for his shows? I know John has several Two Rocks, and now his own model, of course. I believe he's giving the prototype a test drive before final production in this video (which is also posted under his ID):
i'm have an account with a photo agency that does celeb and he is mostly using tr in the concert images. i'm sure you saw his video at tr testing out his proto. i love the tr amps especially matched with their sig cabs.

I agree. I've tried a few other cabs but the best one seems to be their own which they've loaded with custom speakers from Eminence. I'm not exactly sure which speakers they've based those on.

John had the amp in the fall of '06, right before TR did his signature amp. I bought it in January '07.
I ended up putting Tone Tubby speakers in my 212 Sig cab (one alnico hempcone H1E and one ceramic hempcone) because I wasn't so crazy about the T-R speakers. The T-Rs (and Celestion 12/65s in general, which are the speakers the T-Rs are based on) have too much bass and a hard, aggressive high end to my ears.
