Hi folks,

Has anyone who owns a Collings 290 experienced problems with the guitar slipping on your lap when playing seated?

I recently read on one internet forum that a guy was having this problem and Alex @ Collings made him another one without the beveled bottom.

I'm considering purchasing a 290 but I don't want to deal with the slipping issue (because 99% of the time, I play seated.)

God bless,
"louisiana" Smile

I don't own one, but nevertheless, a suggestion: play seated with a guitar strap.

I have not had any problem with mine but I usually do wear a strap even when sitting down.

I haven't had a problem. The 290 seems very well balanced and very stable to me. I often play seated without a strap. If it makes a difference, I play with the body pretty much straight up and down. Not angled out at the bottom.

You must have read a different post than I did. I remember someone having a 290 altered to better fit his belly!

I have a 290 and I've not had any problems with it slipping when I play sitting down. I guess it could depend on how you hold it.... what angle you sit at etc... but, for me, no problems so far.

Well, rubber pants would probably help, but they're really uncomfortable . . . Seriously, a strap with straplocks installed on the guitar is probably the easiest solution -- straplocks because when you're sitting, the weight of the guitar isn't pulling down and the strap can slip off easier than when standing. In any case, you probably should use straplocks with such a nice guitar even when you're standing -- for about $10 you can save yourself a possibly major headache.
