At the risk of sounding like a complete numb-nuts, I think it'd be great if this forum would define the function of the switch, volume and tone knobs on the I-35, CL, 290 or SoCo (my interest is in the I-35). That is, which does what, in what position, etc.

I've played around with I-35 controls for a grand total of ten minutes, and then have also played with those of a PRSs Gibsonesque guitars--which PRS says they have defined as the "right way" (compared to Gibson) as to how these controls should work. Will anyone chime in with their understanding of the function of these controls? How do they differ--if at all--to the Gibson ES-355 and/or PRS?

It just seems--given the lack of a Collings manual (which I can easily forgive because the Collings electrics are so sweet in so many other ways)--that this forum, or this thread, might put it down in black and white.

Thanks!

On the 35, two volumes, two tone controls, 3 way switch- only the switch is where it belongs, in proximity to the controls, and the potentiometers actually work, and correlate directly to changes in volume and tone. The quality kills PRS, and I've owned several of them. Not close. So the controls operate in a similar way to Gibsons', but with far higher function and quality control.
