Thanks for having such a great forum. I am mostly a lurker but find the info shared here very insightful and helpful.
I purchased my first Collings a few months ago, a used OM1SB, formally El Jefe's. A great guitar. Yesterday, I bought my second Collings, a new CJ Hog, short scale. Thanks again to all for such a great forum. A few Friday pic follow. |

LCGEEK,
What an OUSTANDING Guitar. I love that Adi top, the Peghead Veneer and Binding. Exceptional Guitar!!! I can't take anymore!!!(in a good way). I am saturated with nothing but Beautiful Collings Guitars riunnig around in my head, and yes, Yours is one of them. I want everyone I see! I want to quit my job, buy every Collings I see, move to a Deserted Island and just play them all day long! Uh Oh...time for some therapy!!! I know I have some kind of Collings Syndrome going on here!! Another Spectacular Collings CJ! Congratulations! MRT |

LCGEEK, your guitar is beautious, I love the look of that grain.
How does short scale on a CJ hold up to real hard strumming? |
||||
|
Thanks for the congrats dadthrash. I believe this one is a sitka top, not Adi top (unless someone at Collings forgot to put an A in my model #
Papi - not sure about real hard strumming yet. I am more of finger picker and easy strummer kind of guy. I took the 13s off and put 12s on straight-way when I got home yesterday. I was doing some hard strumming (for me anyways) a moment ago with the 12s and it seems to hold up just fine - very clear. |

Well, at least one of us has a short scale CJ. A stunner. Dadthrash, that headstock binding is another example of "tortoise bound" headstock (the neck looks naked). I'm sure that guitar will honk as much as you want, or play superb fingerstyle with either 12's or 13's. Been there. Hope to go there again someday. congrats, sire. You have chosen wisely. tom

Wow, could have fooled me....but I just had a Collings Forum class on Adi tops yesterday, and it seemed like some of the Adi's I was exposed to.
Other Veterans will know....and I doubt your Label is wrong. Still, an OUSTANADING TOP! Best, Mike |

The neck is also bound. It is hard to capture the beauty of it in photo. It's a treat to look down on while playing. FWIW - I thought I wanted to a CJ with 1 3/4 neck. However, strangley lately, when I am switching between open C and G cowbody chords and finger picking John Hurt style on 1 3/4 necks that are fairly full C shapes, I often get momentary brief shooting pains in my wrist. Not fun. Maybe it is a flaw in my playing style - don't know for sure. In any case, I opted for the standard nut on this CJ, but I really like the neck shape the whole length. Wish I could play as good as this Collings feels and sounds. I am just so giddy over this one, can I post a few more pics? Here goes. Tried to get one to show the tortoise a bit more. |

Great job on the photos!

There ya go, Dad. Ain't gonna get better close ups (border line pornography, by the way) of what a mahogany tortoise bound guitar looks like. If I were goin' as far as varnish cutaway on an OM, I'd have that binding in an Austin minute. tom

Lcgeek,
Man, thanks for the great pictures of your guitar, and your timing could not be beter. I've been trying to find examples of that exact binding opiton. You're awesome Dude. Could you please post another picture. I need to see your bound Headstock in a SIDE VIEW. Now I hope you don't mind posting one more picture for all of us "fans" of your new CJ. Come on...one more Headstock Side View. Giddy seems to be commonplace at my house lately!!!!!! Congrats Again, Mike |

sonoman,
Point well taken, and it is in the works. What great timing for lcgeek's guitar and pic's, mostly for him....but also, for me too. Thanks for all your help lately. Mike |

Mike, no problem - here is a couple more. I've had 3 customs built (unfortunately not Collings) - I can imagine your excitement but decisions...decisions make things interesting.
For pics - I am out of natural light for the day, so stuck with either flashed out or not enough light. Not sure how these will turn out. |
