Anyone had any problems with string intonation. I just put on a set of DR rare med strings. The D string at the 7th fret and up goes flat. Its not the guitar. This is the first set of strings this has happened.
Could be a bad string. Not uncommon. I've learned that if a string sounds off, change it out right away, rather than mess around with checking nut slots, saddle, frets, etc.

I too have noticed different characteristics with different brands of strings. Haven't dialed in on the intonation differences, but a difference between certain strings in how they accentuate dead spots, twanging, barking and the such. Also, that could be why I have small intonation concerns sometimes, and then it goes away. I have never put the two together, but maybe that is it.
Excuse me if my termonolgy doesn't make sense. Just that some strings seem to cause extra unwanted sounds, where some others, those sounds are almost non-existant.
Anyone ever order from webstrings.com? I just ordered 4 sets. They are super cheap at $3 a pack.
Well, there's your problem -- at that price they're probably selling factory rejects . . .
Simplest thing to do is loosen the D string and make sure the ball end is seated correctly in the bridge. Then obviously try a new string -- for you, that's a 50 cent investment . . .

The strings with the problem are DR RARE PBs not the webstrings. I will post how the webstrings are when I get em. SO.... They are not cheap. ITs just a drag they sound and feel great but the intonation...... Thanks for your comments!!!
You know that webstring has to be good, how else could they make this claim, "The number one choice for recording"?
Oops! Did that come off as sarcastic? Whatever was I thinking? It's just that on this forum where most of us have spared no expense to get what we believe are the finest guitars available, why do we quibble over a few dollars for strings? Makes no real sense to me. I'll just keep paying the money for my John Pearse phosphors and keep loving that tone. I'll try another brand or set from time to time (Elixirs, DRs), depending on who is recommending them, but I seem to always end up back with JPs.

Quality control might well vary among string makers. But let's keep in mind that the string makers/packagers do not test each and every string by stringing it up on a guitar -- that would ruin each and every string. I don't think there is such a thing as a "factory second" or "factory reject" string, that has been tested and found wanting -- but I could be mistaken. There could well be overstocks of various types/gauges that are sold off to repackagers.
For those of us that buy strings by sets, rather than in bulk individually, the cost of a bad string is the cost of the set you have to buy to replace it, which set is now short one good string.
In any event, a sub-performing string is not uncommon. Some brands might be better or worse than others in quality control and the frequency of bad strings.

I've been using D'Addario Phosphor Bronze lights on all three of my OMs, and change them each month. I've yet to have a single "bad" string. Might just be the luck of the draw, but I suspect its directly related to good quality control (at least on their strings )
