I like the McKinney (also made by Elliot) better than the Elliot. I have one on eaqch guitar, and it "lives" just above the nut when not in use.
You'll never be sorry you got one. Bill Miller |

Thanks to all for the info.
I know there are many good capos. I ordered an Elloit push button with a Mckinney saddle. Seems like the best of both worlds. I like the push button idea and the sleak design of the McKinney saddle. The Elliots were super to talk to. I have my CW and a Goodall CJ. I wanted to use the capo on both but was worried about the fit. The CJ has a 1 24/32" nut and of course the CW has a 1 23/32" nut. I calipered both necks a the 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th frets ( I do capo at 9th in my TRAD music) and the Elliots annalized that I could do that but I just can't go to the 9th fret on the Goody. That's OK. The point is The Elliots "thought" about this request and discussed it, and felt I could move ahead with dual utility without having the capo be too big on the CW. I liked that thoughtfullness. Catch ya on the turn around... Mac |

i like the elliott better than his mckinney model; i like bill stokes' version of the mckinney better than phill's design. the hinge is less obtrusive to me when my left hand is scrunched down near the capo. all are "jewel quality." try to give phill the best idea possible of the fretboard curvature, as that can be a mismatch too.

Thank for your input ptoverly,
I did get the Elliot, and opted to have the Mckinney saddle as it looked less obtrusive to me. I think the saddle shape will be OK as Scott Elliot said they are quite familiar with the Collings CW TTYL, Mac I'll let you all know how it works out. |

I owned one and sold it for a Kyser. One hand operation was impossible and the fit has so little tolerance that I was afraid of dinging by neck. The Kyser, James Taylor's choice, is a one hand operation and cheaper.

Thanks TEBozo,
I understand. Perhaps my experience will be a bit different as my Elliot will be a little wider. I'm haveing it made so I can capo up to the 9th fret, so that will give me a bit more room down the neck. TTYL, Mac |

Mac...Please let me know how the capo worked out especially mixing the push buttom Elliott top with the McKinley base...I have a CW and was thinking about that same set up but never asked the people at Elliott if it could be done...I would greatly appreciate your feedback on the capo...

LBSurfer,
Well, my report is positive. It works well for me the way I had it made. The fit is quite good and I wanted it to go up to the 9th fret so I gave Scott the measurement at the 9th. The volute stops the capo from "living" as far away from the nut as on my Goody, it is still OK. I wanted a capo that was very sleek and unobstrusive, and this product did fit the bill. It is not cheap, but it is a fine tool. I have no doubt it will outlive me as will my guitars. There are a number of good capos on the market, and I did not feel like starting a collection if you know what I mean. I just want one good one. If you have the money go for it as most players will say the same thing about this capo. That's my report, sir. Regards, Mac. |
