Hi All,

Mac,
The subject has come up a time or two here. This link might be useful: http://collingsforum.com/eve/forums?a=search&reqWor...forum_scope=74760485 These capos also get discussed a lot over at http://www.acousticguitar.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi Cheers! B |

they are a wonderful addition to your gear I have had mine for a couple of years now all my buddies thought I was nuts for spending $100.00 for it but it's the best, goes with the best instrument, and my music is worth it . they are slim against your hand and I find it stays in tune well I pick mostly Bluegrass so I use it constantly Phil Elliot is also a first class guy , they also are a mechanical work of art IMHO Fred Collings D-1A Bourgeois Vintage D |

Walt I see they have gone up since I purchased mine 2 + years ago when I got mine I had a pair of
Larrivees D-50 & D-60 & the stock Elliot would not slide over the nut due to the squared off shoudlers at the volute I called Phil he sent me 3 more different styles & sizes and told me send back the ones I did'nt need with the check for the one I wanted , first class guy Fred Collings D-1A Bourgeois Vintage D |

They are the bomb. I wouldn't use anything else!

That is interesting how words mean different things in different locations. Bomb here in the south would mean a dud or something that tanked , failed etc. LOL That is a hoot. As for capo's I'd not spend that kind of dough on a capo as long as Shubb's work as well as needed for less than twenty bucks and are available in a miriad of configurations. Ah but then I have NOT played an Eliot and since my last name is Elliott maybe they would give me a break. Good luck with that surname business, stixx. My name's Martin, and they never did give me a break in the 20 plus years I played them exclusively. That was pre-93, when I discovered Collings. And I use a capo very much like that one, only brass customized with bone/rubber on the bar that frets the strings. It's not one button, though, but it sounds great and plays in tune.

Wow, they really have gone up to $120. Mine was $100 shipped.
Does my guitar sound six times better than with a Shubb or a Kyser? No. Is the Elliot built six times better than the others? Absolutely. Over the life of a capo I don't think $120 is too much money. I have the push button variety, and I don't think I'd sell it for $120 right now. Beautifully built, indcredibly functional, and better sounding than the Kyser I keep as a backup. I wondered at one point if I should have bought the McKinney style, but I like the push button for those times when I need to remove the capo from the guitar. Is approximately 4% of the value of a decent used D1A too much. I don't think so for something I honestly think my grandkids will be able to use. 2005 D1A 2003 KM 380 |

Thanks all.
I think I will go for it then. I know there are reams of words written about capos. I've investgated a number of top-of-the-line products. I really want a high end capo so I think I'll just go with a custom Elliott push button made for my CW (Winfield) neck as I will never give up my CW...GAS or not...it's just too too perfect. TTFN, Mac. |

Mac,
You might want to try a Ptacek capo. Twenty bucks cheaper and they are also hand made. I use one and I don't think they get better than this. Greg Boyd carries them at his shop. Very nice quality. Ptacek capo Greg is an outstanding guy to deal with. Top notch service. Cody |

After a 29 year search for a capo I was happy with, I have finally found one. I thought I had hit the holy grail with the G7th capo. But, the G 7th capo was good on the first three frets but it pulled the guitar out of tune too much and I still got buzzing beyond the 3rd fret.
When I was at the Fur Peace Ranch this past november, NIRVANA! A friend let me try his Elliott push button capo and I knew that my long search was over. This capo is WELL WORTH the money. Great on any fret. Barely pulls my guitar out of tune. Sensitive to adjustments and absolutely no buzzing of strings no matter what fret it is on. I LOVE the thing! |
