I have to admit, I'm a little bored lately since I cannot play guitar for more than a few minutes (due to injury), but am vicariously awaiting Sonoman's report on his CJ, whenever it arrives.
What's taking so long? I'm thinking Collings decided they must make a spectacular instrument and they've put it together and taken it apart 3 times now... knowing that if it does not meet Sonoman's expectations, it could get sent back to Nashville and back on Cotten's web site. Such a tragedy might have a catastrophic results... after, one of Collings best designed guitars would be pitted against an abnormal sounding small-shop OM. And Sonoman has threaten to send it back if it did not deliver. I would look up that reference but I don't have time to search 3,000 plus posts. The stakes are high and given Sonoman's penchant for critique, having played so many fine guitars.... Collings has to deliver and it has to be perfect. The pressure is on. I'm betting that Collings delivers.

Interesting timing on this post Kenny. I was justing thinking that after Tom gets the varnished CJ, and decisions are made, and reports are posted, Ed could just shut down the forum. It seems like we've discussed everything already. Dale already has the ultimate Collings collection...though he is expecting that TME 40th anniversary... After 15000+ guitars, mandolins, electrics, what else is there to discuss? Every piece of information should be somewhere in the archives. Will Collings come up with something new to keep us discussing? Or should we turn again to bridge pin material and string preferences? Maybe tube amps...nylon strings...banjos...A SIGNATURE MODEL

Wow...What an Honor to have a Guitar named before it even has arrived. Very Cool. and I really like the name. I hope sonoman will keep it....both the Guitar and the Name!
On another note: sonoman, can't you just call Alex at the factory? He should be able to tell you +/- a week or two when it will be shipped?
Eric, Hey wait a minute.....some of us are just starting our Collings Journey! I could talk for hours about Collings Guitars, given what I know so far, and what I don't know. Mike
1. I will not be naming a guitar after a weapons system. Ever. 2. Alex has enough real work to do. He doesn't need to babysit me. someone does, of course, just not him. 3. discussion of guitars and their merits is endless, or at least seems that way sometimes. I doubt the arrival of a single, trivial instrument should dry up what amounts to a refreshing source of comity and good humor in a netscape too often infested with vitriol. So, I'm with Dadthrash here. the forum has a far greater purpose than micromanaging one flippin' varnished guitar. I believe the term "get a life" may apply in some instances. I could use a dose myself, but tonight's gig should perform the usual cleansing and clarity that comes from playing for people. I love it. Now, about that Collings tube amp....... tom
Papi: the predator is a missile. I'm a peaceful man, generally, with a very long fuse (no Freudians need apply here). And Collings has made at least one twelve string. It sold at Mass Street two or three years ago, I think. Maybe four. Should still be on their site. OR not. You know, I usually don't name my guitars. the alien thing just evolved here and somehow stuck. We do call the CJA Big Bill on occasion. The koa is The Koa. Not terribly creative. Let's see what the guitar has, and is, before we leap like lemmings over the edge. argggghhhhh. tom
