HI

im saving up for another collings a custom c10 and have looked on your american dealer websites , you have allot more variety than here in the UK.I really like the idea of getting a cedar and maple c10 .i wondered if you could share your experience of this model with cedar and maple?
What kind of sound should i expect from this combination any info and advice would be appreciated as when i order it i want to make sure its the one as i will not be able to try it as we do not have the variety of models in the uk most models we have are standard models

thanks mark

Hey Mark,

I'm not exactly sure what kind of sound your looking for Mark but a c10 cedar guitar with a maple top sounds kinda funky to me. The best kinda sound that guitar would make is if you threw it on top of bunch of banjos. what would people say if you did that? they say you have perfect pitch. The only other advice I could give would be to disguise your shipping address and send it to Iraq. It's sure to bring a quick end to the war. Can you image having to listen to that guitar all day.

Wo' Nelley!!!!!

I suggest you e-mail Kim Sherman at Cotten Music in Nashville, TN. She has been an advocate of cedar and maple C10's for years, and personally owns one herself, as well as a Walker. She, of anyobody, will shoot striaght with you on its tone and character. And, she will shoot striaght up, a real honest - down to earth person. ksherman@cottenmusic.com

I have heard a Collings OM with Maple and German and I was was personally quite suprised at its dynamic range, and especially with the warmth and clarity, and it was louder than heck.. I think you are on the right path.

Maple and Cedar make for a most excellent tone wood combination. I play a maple/cedar Goodall Parlor, which is really more or less an L00 size, same as C10. Oh yes, and the guitar: Amazing. Warm yet bright. Articulate, fat trebles. It's the guitar I play most. And I play it with a 2mm flatpick. I was like this close to getting the maple/cedar C10, but in the end I felt it would be redundant with the Goodall, and sadly...sniff..sniff...remain Collingsless to this day. So yeah, I say go for it. Be advised that it is not going to sound like a rosewood guitar. If you are open to something a little different, then it could be for you. I was skeptical, but was quickly won over.

Well, we all have opinions.

Homey.....Unless you are just trying to stir things up, I'd say you don't know what you are talking about.

Recent interviews with Collings' in a major acoustic guitar magazine says just the opposite of what you state. At first, Collings didn't like to work with Cedar. But they have found they really like it in some of the samller boxes, and especially with maple.

Cotten Music has been an advocate of this wood combination for years, especially with the C10. They have sold many, many of them them to very satisfied customers, including some top Nashville names.

The normal perception is that cedar and maple would have a ultra bright sound. Not so. Very warm and musical. An ideal fingerstyle guitar, with unexpected warmth and clarity. Lots of folks like them for recrding purposes.

I still suggest you contact Kim Sherman at Cotten Music on this subject. In fact, I think she has one in stock right now.

I had the good fortune to wander into the Podium while visiting Minneapolis last summer and I found myself in love with a Collings C-10 cedar and maple guitar. It does everything except play itself! Everyone who hears it wants to play it...and then after doing so, sing its praises. I cannot say enough about my Collings. It has a rich, warm, authentic sound and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I also sing the Podium's praises -one of my best memories of MN was the afternoon I spent there.

Having owned a maple/cedar C10, I'd say that, more than anything else, it's surprising. It's much louder and brighter than you'd expect, and drop dead gorgeous. It's certainly far brighter than anyone who'd compare a Collings to a cardboard box. Looks like we got us a rank takamine in here with the good stuff. And I concur with the advice to talk to Kim at Cotten. I've bought, and sold, several guitars through her, and she's as knowledgable as they get.

Hey Mark, you were expecting your 0001A a couple of months ago!! Any pics, how does it sound ? I see you already have a c10 so you know what the guitar is going to feel like. The cedar maple I played was a Goodall but beautifully warm and responsive, almost classical . You were also looking into a Koa D what happened about that ?
