What should be the upcharge for sunburst on a new D2H? Thanks anyone, I guess I can call Collings as well, just wondering if anyone knew offhand. 2006 prices. Thanks!

Worth every penny IMHO... Collings SBs are like works of art, the best in the industry.

Now hold to your horses about the price of a burst. Just because they charge $600 doesn't mean that's what its worth. I've seen some that are great, some that look like a big ol pumpkin. Besides, how much can a little paint cost. I could use a little help here Brett!!!

I agree the upcharge seems steep. I have some electric guitars that were custom built with bursts and the process of finishing them just right is pretty intense. I have never been upcharged for one of these. How do many acoustic makers justify? Just curious not bashing.

From what I see, the upcharge holds its value in the used market extremely well. I was merely asking for specifics on Collings pricing for '06.

On the more philosphical questions, I'd say if it's not worth it to you, I can't argue. I wouldn't pay for abalone trim, I'm just not fond of it cosmetically, but man it drives the price up, and some people love it. I think a burst makes a dramatic upgrade, and is a lot cheaper than the bling. To each his own.

Thanks man, ordered from (more or less) your neck of the woods. Maple Street in Atlanta.

Beautiful d-red. Love those bursts but I love the abalone too. Collings does it a little more tastefully than others.

Small world there Red, mine came from MSG also.
Bought mine used there a little over two years ago.
Looks pretty much the same, and I have probably played the one you bought as I was just there a few weeks ago.
Say HI to Lindsay for me.

I have to say that $600 sure seem's steep for a shaded finish especially if the best discount you can get is 10%. Granted Colling's does a fine burst but that's high, I could see it if it was a full body burst but not just the top.
