I have been interested to know.. have anyone do any serious comparison to the unplug tone before and after installation of an undersaddle pickup?
I have heard people saying that it will deminish the sustain of the guitar.. and some saying that it will lost some med to high range of the tone.. And some people swear the the different is so little that you can hardly hear the different? Whats you take?? |

It really depend upon the pickup and the installaton. I had a B-band installed in my first Collings (D1). The first installation resulted in some strings not ringing as loudly as before the installation. I had a new saddle installed and the problem was solved. I know that Highlander UST require some serious modifications to the bridge of the guitar. Unless they are done by a meticulous pro, you're asking for problems.

Can't answer your question.
But, you might seriously check out the Fishman Rare Earth Blend or Rare Earth Blend Custom. I have a Rare earth Blend, which is a real thin sound hole pickup, plus a mic that fits inside the sound box. It has a "blender" switch on it, so you can choose the amount of mic x. soundhole pickup mix you want. I think it comes very close to sounding like the real thing, in that it does not have that metalic sound like under the saddle mics do. Go to: www.fishman.com |
