Hard to beat a D2H or D1 for live listening. The OM will have less bass which might be easier to record with a mic. Rosewood or mahogany would both be great.

Well folks, after talking to people and listning to sound clips here and there I chose the D1 for my purpose. There something about the D1 even more than the D1A that got my attention the most. I know my studio real well and the pre's and mic's and the D1 is going to slip right in there with me at the controls. It's amazing what proper microphone placement can do in a recording and with sound quality of the D1 I see not to much effort to get me there. I purchased from the Podium and was quite pleased with the fast and timely service. Responded quickly to all my e-mails and answered all my questions to the best of there ability. The persone name I dealt with is Jeff. Our convertation on the phone was short but to the point. Our e-mails back and fourth were very informative and also to the point. The D1 should be here this coming Monday. A Monday to look forward to for a change. I will post some sound clips from my studio recordings as soon as I can for you folks to comment on. I thank you all again for your help in chosing my Collings. All the best.

Mando -
Sounds like a very considered choice. I'm sure it will work out very well. Also, a good choice in dealers. I've bought from the Podium as well and so I could very much understand you comment about "short [and informative] and to the point." My same experience. And the used CJ I bought from those folks is still my main guitar. Best of luck to you, my friend. Jim BSOB '07 |

Mando,
Congrats. You will love the D-1. Mine is the guitar I probably play more than any of the others. It has great warmth and sparkle and records like a dream. I have this gut feeling that I made the better choice for my needs. My Collings MF will now have a member of the Collings family join it. Two thumbs up to the Collings people making these fine instruments for our enjoyment and love of making great music. All the best.

Hi folks, got the Collings D1 yesterday. Very beautiful looking guitar. Nothing fancy except the craftmanship. I have been playing it quite a bit since it arrived and I'm not a guitar player, I'm a mando player. My son came over early this morning to play this guitar. My son is a real guitar player acoustic and electric. When he first started playing his first comment was Wow and as he continued playing as I sat in front of him I just could not get over how balanced it sounded. Beautiful overtones everywhere, perfect intonation and from soft to hard playing, nothing sounded out of place. My salesman at the Podium had a few to pick from for me. He advise me on one of them that he realy liked and I told him to send that one. The man was right on the money with this one, it's a keeper. My son also commented by saying "if you send that one back Dad, your crazy". A little nervy ordering sight unseen or heard but I got lucky and with the help of my salesman good ear for sound, it worked. I am one happy camper right now and I will post some sound clips here by next weekend hopefuly. Amazing guitars that the folks at Collings make. Ready to go right out of box sounding like it's been played for year's. I only got two thumb's but this one gets three thumb's up from me. Played my MF as my son played the D1 and they blended like they were meant to be, must be related somehow. I will post shortly some pic's and sound clip's. All the best to everyone here.
