Just wondered what your thoughts are if you have ever played a German top on a Collings?

Especially on an OM or OOO?

They sure are pretty. Real creamy white, with lots and lots of cross silking.

Hey Lefty,

I've got a German top on my 000. I really, really like it. It has a beautiful, rich, delicate voice. The German has a very subtle degree of "compression" that Adirondack doesn't seem to have - the dynamic range of the German isn't quite as lively or responsive (Juber has noticed the same thing about German v. Adirondack). On a Collings Brazilian guitar I think I prefer German to Adirondack (at least on the two that I've had). The German sounds a bit smoother and more refined to me than Adirondack.

May I cut in? I bought my OM-2HEL 4 years ago. Englemann top and a long saddle. When I was in the local shop, I tried both German one and Engleman one. I decided to take the Engleman one after a few hours. I can't describe the difference
specifically. Anyway I like the Engleman one.
Is there any Collings owner whose Collings has an Engleman top? Please introduce your guitars. I'd like to know your opinions.

I had a OO Indian Rosewood with Engleman (sold it to get a Collings OOO Brazilian/Adirondac).

On the 00 and OM's, I really, really like the Engleman. Its warms up the tone considerably I think.

I played a 0002h Engleman top for a coulpe a years. Owned a OM3 koa with a German top (sunburst too)but as nice as koa is to look at the sound was not worth the price.
Real German spruce is a prized tone wood....Rare and perfect for smaller instruments like my Collings mandolin with a German top.
Adirondack is great for flatpicking but fingerstlye guitars just dont benefit from it. The headroom is not needed. Ive owned OM1A and OM1 and both are great. OM1 was even better.
