40 years ago I quit playing the guitar. It was like trying to fret barbed wire. I recently bought a EIR/satin dread Martin because I wanted motivation to practice and because life is too short to own a cheap guitar. I named it Lazarus and I will soon be able to take down the chicken wire fence around my chair where I practice.

I bought my lovely bride of 32 years a Mid-Mo M-4 mandolin.

ElJefe is really Larry from West TX and New Mexico.

Hello, f5joe here from Knoxville, Tennessee.

I've loved Collings' for a long while and just acquired a 1994 D2H Winfield prize guitar from the Flatpicking Champion, Mike Whitehead. It's a stunning guitar, especially with the wheat headstock inlay.

I love to buy/sell/trade guitars, mandos, banjos and electrics too. I'm f5joe at the mandolincafe.com site as well.

Thanks, Joe

Hi
I'm Chris from So Cal. I'm a doctor & worship leader who's been playing guitar for the past 20 years. I am a recent convert from Taylor/Martin to Collings after purchasing a barely used D2H from ebay. Before receiving this guitar, I've never even seen a Collings in real life. I bought one solely based on comments from this forum members regarding D2H. One of the best decisions I've made. Never been so happy with a guitar. Hopefully I can add couple of more Collings (OM and a CJ) in the future. Thanks for a wonderful forum!

Chris

So what's the deal on the finish? Why would it have a sign like that? Was it used? Returned? Collings doesn't allow "seconds" to enter the market, that would be bad for business.

Hey Kenny,

I think localplayer got himself a Varnish Collings.

Well, I joined the forum around 2 years ago but haven't posted much until this week. I just put a deposit on my first Collings - a D2HSB. It's in production, 3 months to go.

I have played primarily electric guitar for 21 years. I have an acoustic/electric 12-string but it's a laminate top and I never thought it was a great sounding instrument, but I like the 12 string chime and have used it quite a bit for writing.

My day job is software and db development. I've been in I.T. for 12+ years, everything from Fortune 500 style senior manager to hands on programming. I'm lucky because I work for myself now and get to do it at home. Picking up the guitar to strum here and there is a great way to relieve stress!

If it's made up of zeros and ones, I've probably seen it. Ran a BBS way, way back in the day.

Hello friends, this is Dave from Los Angeles. I’ve been reading your posts for over a year now, and will start by thanking you for the valuable insights and information (special thanks to Ed for putting up such a well maintained and easy-to-use site… the check’s in the mail amigo). I have learned a great deal from all of you, and as of today am finally a Collings owner (see post in gear forum).

I got the music itch when I heard “Meet the Beatles” at the age of 7, which hearing enslaved me to all that 60’s rock and soul music. My tastes evolved with exposure to wider and wider areas of music through good ol’ KFML in Denver, and I finished high school with a passion for jazz and 70’s fusion. I made my living as a guitar player in an R&B bar band in my twenties (stratocasters and telecasters), then returned to school to became an adult in my thirties Smile, and began working as an engineer in my 40s.

Since then, work, family, and surfing have consumed so much of my time that I really wasn’t playing much until about two years ago, when by dumb luck I came across Nickel Creek on the radio, from whence I discovered solo Chris Thile, and then the whole newgrass/flatpicking thing. That got me playing my old Guild dreadnaught again, and taking some lessons down at McCabes, where I heard my first Collings.

Looking forward to sore fingers and brilliant recordings, and maybe meeting some of ya’ll at one of the Austin gatherings.

I just joined though I've been a very big fan of Collings guitars for years since I first played a C10 Deluxe. Clarity, power, projection, superb construction standards. I'd love to have a C10 or 00 someday.

I work in the TV/Film industry as an acting coach.

I write and perform my original Blues, R&B, Country and Pop tunes at clubs throughout Miami.

I play Ted Thompson guitars.

I'm Tom in Frederick, MD (USA) and have been playing since 1967 when I lived in Puerto Rico. My first was a Sears acoustic that my parents bought for me. My holdings ever since have included Kingston (12-string), Yamaha (classical), lots of Martins (D-16RGT, DM-12, JC-16RGTE Special, OM-21, OM-35, D-12-35, HD-28VS, J-40, J-41 Special, 000-40SMK, 000-28 NB-currently for sale), and a Huss and Dalton 00-SP. My latest acquisition is a Collings 000-2H.

I enjoy fingerstyle and fingerpicking and harmony-harmony-harmony. I appreciate good bass response and sustain, but also love slotheads (maybe you can tell) and small bodies. Of course I have terminal GAS.

Greetings to all

Two Collings, two Huss & Daltons, a Larrivee, an H&F, and a bunch of Martins.

My name is Todd and I'm a guitar-a-holic.
I'm new to the forum.

Enjoy the feedback, comments and guitar photos.

Look forward to swapping guitar stories with the similarly "afflicted"
especially among you cognoscenti of Collings.

Thanks -
